Ghany Belmaachi
21 Nov - 30 Dec 2019
After fifty years of passionate activities, So Art Gallery decided to pay an homage to the work of Ghany Belmaachi. This great retrospective exhibition gathers more than 100 pieces, paintings from different periods of the artist’s life.
Among the pioneers of the new figuration in Morocco, in the 1970s, Ghany became one of the most striking figures thanks to a plastic vocabulary that he explored less as a realistic representation of everyday life than as a broader social and human metaphor.
Ghany’s art reflects the same pureness and peaceful loneliness as the one coming from the character. His artworks reveal a universal spirit and a philosophical vision on the world. It’s therefore not really surprising to find out that the artist chose topics which speak to anyone.
Fifty years of passionate activities have made of Ghany an exceptional figure in the art scene, well known around the world, through numerous exhibitions, travels and conferences. He is the embodiment of the committed artist who works for tolerance and respect for difference, who adopts an ethical point of view before any aesthetic approach.
